Cunha Lima: Pension Fund CPI now moves forward.
The leader of the PSDB in the Senate, Cássio Cunha Lima (PB), stated this Friday, the 17th, that he already has the 27 signatures necessary to present a request to create a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) on Pension Funds; "The situation is very serious, it's something that needs to be investigated. The Senate cannot fail to investigate. The concrete fact to investigate is already in place. Starting this month, postal workers will have deductions from their salaries to cover a deficit of R$ 5,6 billion. In the case of Postalis (the postal service's pension fund), they even bought Venezuelan bonds," he stated; this will be the second attempt to create the CPI on Pension Funds; last week, the withdrawal of signatures from five senators from the PSB and one from the PP made its installation impossible.
247 - The leader of the PSDB in the Senate, Cássio Cunha Lima (PB), stated this Friday, the 17th, that he already has the 27 signatures necessary to present a request to create the CPI of Pension Funds.
"The situation is very serious; it's something that needs to be investigated. The Senate cannot fail to investigate. The mismanagement is undeniable, the reckless management, the results speak for themselves. The concrete facts to investigate are already in place. Starting this month, postal workers will have deductions from their salaries to cover a deficit of R$ 5,6 billion. In the case of Postalis (the postal service's pension fund), they even bought Venezuelan government bonds. How can anyone in their right mind buy Venezuelan government bonds? We need to trace this money," stated Cunha Lima.
Cunha Lima said he has 24 signatures and three more confirmed to collect next week: that of Senator Aloysio Nunes Ferreira (PSDB-SP), who is on an international trip; that of Paulo Bauer (PSDB-SC), who will be returning to the Senate after heart surgery; and that of Luiz Henrique (PMDB-SC).
This will be the second attempt to create a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Pension Funds. Last week, the withdrawal of signatures from five senators of the PSB and one from the PP made the installation of the parliamentary commission of inquiry impossible, and it was shelved. The request, authored by Senators Aloysio Nunes Ferreira (PSDB-SP) and Ana Amélia (PP-RS), was read in plenary, but supporters had until midnight to maintain or withdraw their names.
Following instructions from the PSB leader, João Capiberibe (PSB-AP), Senators Romário (RJ), Lídice da Mata (BA), Roberto Rocha (MA), and Fernando Bezerra Coelho (PE) withdrew their signatures. Senator Ivo Cassol (PP-RO) also withdrew his.
