Sputnik - The arrival in Brazil this Monday (5) of a delegation from the United States government led by the country's National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, has been confirmed.

The trip was confirmed by the White House, by the office of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and by the Planalto Palace.

Sullivan and other members of his department will travel to Brasilia to meet with representatives of the government transition team.

The White House says Biden is looking for an 'early opportunity' to meet with Lula.

Sullivan confirmed that in addition to Lula, there will be conversations with the Special Secretary for Strategic Affairs of Jair Bolsonaro's government, Admiral Flávio Rocha, and with Senator Jaques Wagner (PT), who is part of the transition cabinet.

"During the meetings, Sullivan will discuss how the United States and Brazil will continue to work together on common challenges, such as combating climate change, preserving food security, promoting democracy and managing regional migration," the White House said in a statement on Friday (2).

The Planalto's Strategic Affairs Secretariat told the media that Admiral Flávio Rocha accepted the request to meet with Sullivan.

"Flávio Rocha has maintained dialogue with Jake Sullivan through in-person meetings in Brazil and the US, discussing strategic bilateral issues in various areas," the press office continued.

According to media reports, the White House emphasized that the scheduled visit will continue the initial dialogue between Joe Biden and Lula in October 2022, when the US president "committed to opening channels of communication between the two countries during the transition."
