Conab employs relatives of favorites in Congress.
One of Senator Renan Calheiros' (PMDB-AL) sons earns R$ 10,5 in the agency, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture; the ex-wife of Congressman Henrique Eduardo Alves (PMDB-RN) also receives R$ 10,1 per month; these appointments occurred during the administration of Wagner Rossi, from the same party.
247 – Senator Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL) and Representative Henrique Eduardo Alves (PMDB-RN) are once again mentioned in the press for involvement in allegations. This time, relatives of the favorites to assume command of the National Congress starting in February appear as employees, albeit infrequent, of the National Supply Company (Conab), a stronghold of the PMDB party.
Rodrigo Rodrigues Calheiros, one of the senator's sons, receives R$ 10,5 monthly as an advisor for Special Contracts at the presidency of the agency. Mônica Infante Azambuja, the congressman's ex-wife, has a salary of R$ 10,1 as a director's advisor.
The two joined the agency in July 2011, when Wagner Rossi, from the PMDB party, was Minister of Agriculture. Allegations of irregularities led to Rossi's removal from the ministry, which has Conab as a subordinate body.
In 2002, Aves was removed from his position as José Serra's (PSDB) running mate in the coalition that would contest the Presidency after an accusation by Mônica that he had money deposited in tax havens.
Today, Alves is accused of benefiting the company of his then-advisor Aluizio Dutra with parliamentary amendments.
