Ciro Gomes: "We, on the left, have failed the people."
“Brazilian democracy is suffering a terrible blow from the point of view of access to the presidency of the Republic by someone 'without a vote,' brought there by a gang of criminals and bandits, but, at the same time, the alternative media, which plays a very important role in this, no longer allows a monopoly […] It's only not working yet because our people, rightly so, are disappointed with the government and haven't felt motivated to take to the streets to defend it,” stated the former minister, in an interview during an event commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Democratize Agency.

In an interview during an event commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Democratize Agency, former minister Ciro Gomes stated that alliances with parties like the PMDB ended up strengthening the people who carried out the parliamentary coup against President Dilma Rousseff. According to him, this decision helped put interim president Michel Temer in charge of the Executive branch. "We, on the left, failed the people," he said.
According to Ciro, a starting point for changing popular relations with politics is the action of alternative media in the upcoming elections, since they would bring plurality to the coverage. He emphasized that this segment of the press will increasingly play the role of disseminating information, without the filter of the large traditional media outlets.
