Cid claims in his testimony that he passed on to Bolsonaro monitoring data on Alexandre de Moraes.
Bolsonaro ordered monitoring of Moraes after suspicion of meeting with Mourão: "sometimes, he [Bolsonaro] went crazy," says former aide.
247 - In testimony to the Federal Police (PF), Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former aide to former President Jair Bolsonaro, stated that he passed on information to his boss about the monitoring of Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes at the end of 2022. The statements were made within the scope of a plea bargain agreement and had their confidentiality broken by Moraes himself this Wednesday (19). The videos of Cid's testimony were revealed this Thursday (20) after Moraes lifted the confidentiality of the process.
According to Cid, the monitoring was requested directly by Bolsonaro, who suspected alleged meetings between Moraes and then Vice President Hamilton Mourão, now a senator. "The last monitoring, we make that joke, right, professor so-and-so, was... that one was requested by the president. That one was requested by the president himself," the military officer declared during the hearing.
Investigations by the Federal Police indicate that Moraes's monitoring was part of a larger plan to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, elected in 2022. On Tuesday (10), the Attorney General's Office (PGR) indicted Bolsonaro, former minister Braga Netto and 32 other people for participation in an alleged coup plot. The indictment, presented by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, will be analyzed by the First Panel of the STF.
Distrust towards Mourão
In his testimony, Cid detailed that the monitoring of Moraes was motivated by information received by Bolsonaro about a possible meeting between the Supreme Court Justice and the then Vice President. "One of the reasons was the fact that the then President had received information that General Mourão would be meeting with Justice Alexandre de Moraes in São Paulo. This was a way to verify whether this information was true or not," explained the lieutenant colonel.
When questioned by Minister Moraes, who was present at the hearing, about why they hadn't checked Mourão's schedule, Cid replied that this had also been done. He added that Bolsonaro was receiving "a lot of unconfirmed information" and that, faced with this, "he was already nervous, irritated, and ordered things to be checked." "Sometimes, he (Bolsonaro) would go crazy," Cid stated.
The military officer also said he was unaware of any other reasons for monitoring Moraes, who was followed throughout the month of December 2022. Information about the Supreme Court Justice's movements was passed on to Cid by Bolsonaro's former advisor, Marcelo Câmara. In messages exchanged between the two, Moraes was referred to by the codename "professor".
