Celso Amorim first held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1993 and 1995. He represented Brazil at the permanent mission of the United Nations (UN) in New York and also in other countries abroad.
Between 2003 and 2010, he headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during Lula's first term. He also served as Minister of Defense in Dilma Rousseff's government, between 2011 and 2014.
