Cardozo goes to the Supreme Court against accelerated impeachment.

The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, is expected to decide on Senator Simone Tebet's (PMDB-MS) request to reduce the deadline for final arguments in the impeachment process against suspended President Dilma Rousseff in the Senate from 15 to five days. "It's a violation of what was decided by the STF and a violation of the president's right to defense," protested José Eduardo Cardozo, responsible for Dilma's defense. "There needs to be, rationally, more time for final arguments. It's the most important part of the defense because it comes after the production of evidence," he added. The rapporteur in the impeachment committee, Antônio Anastasia (PSDB-MG), today prohibited the inclusion of Romero Jucá's testimony, in which he reveals the true reason for the impeachment, in Dilma's defense.

Dilma's defense lawyer, José Eduardo Cardozo, reacted with indignation to the proposal. "It's a violation of what was decided by the Supreme Court and a violation of the president's right to defense. It's profoundly unreasonable because they gave us 20 days to present the defense," protested Cardozo. "There should rationally be more time for the final arguments. It's the most important part of the defense because it comes after the production of evidence," he added.

In another move that violates the right to a defense in the impeachment process, the rapporteur, Antônio Anastasia (PSDB-MG), prohibited the inclusion of audio recordings of Sérgio Machado with Senator Romero Jucá (PMDB-RR) in President Dilma Rousseff's defense. In the recordings, Jucá confesses that the impeachment was a conspiracy by the political elite to overthrow President Dilma, install Michel Temer in her place, and try to stop the Lava Jato investigation.

Anastasia also prohibited an international body from conducting an economic-financial and accounting audit of the process, designating the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to carry out such work.read more).
