247 - Women from all over Brazil are participating this Monday (23) in the launch of the virtual campaign “Women with Lula”. The action endorses the manifesto launched by the PT that asks the Supreme Federal Court and the Superior Court of Justice to restore legality and to release the former president.

The text of the manifesto reaffirms the judicial persecution suffered by the former president, imprisoned since April 7th in Curitiba. The petition also reinforces that there are no legal impediments to Lula's candidacy for President of the Republic, which will be registered on August 15th in Brasília.

Campaigns will be held on the social media networks of the PT (Workers' Party) and the party's National Women's Secretariat to publicize the action.

Petition for the freedom of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva:

Your Excellency Minister Carmen Lucia,
President of the Supreme Federal Court

Your Excellency Minister Laurita Vaz,
President of the Superior Court of Justice

We are writing to you to request your full legal and constitutional commitment to the immediate release of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the annulment, without further delay, of the arbitrary conviction imposed upon him.

Even to a layperson, the blatant unconstitutionality of the arrest and the inconsistency of the conviction are obvious, both from a legal standpoint and from the perspective of the non-existent evidence of his guilt. Due process and the principle of a fair trial were completely disregarded.

The hasty imprisonment of former President Lula mortally wounds the Brazilian Constitution, which stipulates that every person is considered innocent until a final and unappealable conviction is handed down. The provision in article 5, section LVII of the Constitution is intuitive, and only the ill intent of a biased interpreter could foresee the possibility of anticipating the sentence, thus violating the principle of presumption of innocence, so dear to the democratic struggles of the country and of civilization.

If this state of affairs continues, the Brazilian justice system will be irrevocably exposed as a political jurisdiction, lacking seriousness, and will go down in history as the protagonist of one of the most shameful episodes in our public life.
Former President Lula's candidacy is in place and will not follow the logic of those who mistreat the Constitution. It is up to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), as guardians of the legal order, to guarantee equal conditions so that he can contest the mandate in a clean and democratic manner.

The freedom and timely acquittal of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is what the citizenry expects from the leadership of the national judiciary during this difficult moment in our political life. And the commitment to fulfilling this historical imperative is a duty that society will know how to hold you accountable for.

In light of all the above, decisive and energetic action is expected from both authorities.
