Agency Brazil - The vote on the General Law of the World Cup in the Chamber of Deputies should take place tomorrow (28). An agreement was reached tonight (27) between the president of the House, deputy Marco Maia (PT-RS), who is acting as President of the Republic, and party leaders in the Chamber.

According to the agreement, Marco Maia committed to setting a date for the vote on the Forest Code in April. Opposition and rural leaders had been obstructing the vote on the World Cup Law to pressure the government to set a date for the vote on the Forest Code.

The agreement was celebrated by Representative Rose de Freitas (PMDB-ES), who is currently serving as Speaker of the House. Rose had been advocating for the separation of the World Cup Law and the Forest Code. "The General World Cup Law has nothing to do with the Forest Code," she said.

Even with the agreement reached for the vote on the World Cup Law, opposition parties and the Evangelical Parliamentary Front are expected to hinder the passage of the bill. Opposition and evangelicals will attempt to overturn the provision that suspends, for one month, part of the Fan Statute to allow the sale of beverages in stadiums during World Cup matches. "We have a procedural agreement, not a substantive one," said the leader of the PSDB party, Deputy Bruno Araújo (PE).
