247 – Former State Finance Secretary Jalles Fontoura became the first source to publicly state that the illegal gambling operator Carlinhos Cachoeira was one of the financiers of Senator Demóstenes Torres's 2002 Senate campaign. The statement was made to reporter Carol Pires of Piauí magazine and is published in the issue that hit newsstands on Tuesday, the 3rd. "Those who financed the 2002 campaign were Carlos Cachoeira and Ernani de Paula, former mayor of Anápolis, whose wife became Demóstenes's alternate," he said. He added that he was impressed by the economic power of the campaign, which elected Demóstenes for the first time. In favor of the candidacy, there was "an abundance of airplanes, a real party atmosphere."

This statement could further worsen Demosthenes' situation in the Senate, where the Constitution and Justice Committee unanimously authorized, on the morning of Wednesday the 4th, the plenary vote on his impeachment process.
