Bolsonaro revives old fake news that attempts to link the Workers' Party (PT) to the alleged legalization of pedophilia.
The accusation has no basis in reality and had already surfaced in the 2018 elections against the then-PT presidential candidate, Fernando Haddad.
247 - Bolsonaro used the enclosure at the Alvorada Palace, where he meets with voters daily, to spread falsehoods. This time the attack was on the Workers' Party (PT). The president tried to associate the PT with a bill that supposedly would relativize the crime of pedophilia in Brazil, according to the website. Lula.com.br.
This fake news was debunked in 2018 when it was also used against the then Workers' Party presidential candidate, Fernando Haddad.
Contrary to what Bolsonaro says, the text of Bill 236/2012 never had any connection whatsoever with the left, the PT (Workers' Party), or Haddad. The proposal is not about decriminalizing pedophilia, but about reducing the age limit for victims in the crime of "rape of a vulnerable person," an aggravating circumstance of the crime of rape, from 14 to 12 years old.
The bill was introduced by José Sarney (MDB-AP) and was under the purview of Antonio Anastasia (PSDB-MG) until he left the Senate last year.
