Bolsonaro cries after being confirmed as a presidential candidate.

Congressman Jair Bolsonaro cried during the national anthem at the opening of the PSL convention that officially nominated him as a presidential candidate this Sunday; "We don't have a large party, we don't have campaign funds, we don't have television time, but we have what others don't have, which is you: the Brazilian people," he said in his speech; Janaina Paschoal, beside him, has not yet been announced as his running mate.

247 - Jair Bolsonaro cried during the national anthem at the opening of the convention that officially nominated him for the presidency of the Republic on Sunday, the 22nd, representing the PSL party.

In his opening speech at the event in Rio de Janeiro, the president of the PSL party, Gustavo Bebianno, declared that Brazil will soon see Jair Bolsonaro in a broader sense. According to him, Bolsonaro "is the epitome of integrity."

Bebianno said that the pre-candidate will "put an end to the PT's [Workers' Party] charade" of dividing blacks and whites, heterosexuals and homosexuals. "This has to end, the Brazilian people have to unite," he stated. "Today I can say that I am, in a heterosexual way, passionate about Jair Bolsonaro," he affirmed.

The pre-candidate said he was the "ugly duckling" in these elections. "We don't have a big party, we don't have campaign funds, we don't have television time, but we have what the others don't have, which is you: the Brazilian people," he declared. His speech also included criticism of the PT (Workers' Party) and the centrist bloc. "I want to thank Geraldo Alckmin for bringing together the cream of the worst that Brazil has to offer to his side," he said.

Lawyer Janaina Paschoal, the leading name to be the vice-presidential candidate, was alongside Bolsonaro, but the alliance was not officially announced during the event. In her speech, she criticized Bolsonaro's followers and emphasized that "elections are not won with a single way of thinking."

"You can't govern a nation with a single way of thinking. The followers of Congressman Jair Bolsonaro often have a craving to hear a completely uniform discourse. People are only accepted when they think exactly the same things. Reflect on whether we aren't doing the PT (Workers' Party) in reverse," he warned.
