Bebianno tries to shield Flávio Bolsonaro: 'case is restricted to Queiroz'
The Minister of the General Secretariat, Gustavo Bebianno, attempted to shield Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of President Jair Bolsonaro, from suspicions of links to alleged irregularities committed by former aide Fabrício Queiroz, who is under investigation for the atypical movement of approximately R$ 7 million. "In the government's understanding, this problem must remain within Rio de Janeiro. It's a problem restricted to the actions of the former aide to then-state deputy Flávio, and what needed to be clarified by the president has already been said," stated Bebianno.
247 - The Minister of the General Secretariat, Gustavo Bebianno, attempted to shield Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of President Jair Bolsonaro, from suspicions of links to alleged irregularities committed by his former aide, Fabrício Queiroz, who is being investigated by the Council for Financial Activities Control (Coaf) for the atypical movement of approximately R$ 7 million over three years. According to Bebianno, the case is a problem "restricted" to Queiroz.
"In the government's understanding, this problem must be handled in Rio de Janeiro. It's a problem restricted to the actions of the former advisor to then-state deputy Flávio, and what needed to be clarified by the president has already been said," Bebianno told the newspaper O Globo. He also defended the investigation taking place in Rio de Janeiro, as determined by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Marco Aurélio, who rejected a request made by the parliamentarian's defense for the process to occur in that Court.
In addition to the atypical movement of R$ 1,2 million during one year (2016) and more than R$ 7 million in three years, COAF also identified that, between June and July 2017, 48 cash deposits totaling R$ 96 were made into an account belonging to the parliamentarian, on dates close to the payment of employees of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), when he held the office of state deputy. The content of the document was released by Jornal Nacional.
Elected senator in the election last October, Flávio Bolsonaro also negotiated the sale of two apartments in upscale neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, valued at R$ 4,2 million, between 2014 and 2017. According to the newspaper Folha de S. PaulThe acquisition period coincides with the time when COAF (Council for Financial Activities Control) identified the movement of R$ 7 million in Fabrício Queiroz's accounts.
