Aécio-Marina's alliance goes through Globo.
João Roberto Marinho, editor of the newspaper O Globo, contacted Guilherme Leal, from Natura, and conveyed the information that the dream ticket for the most powerful family in Brazil would be formed by Aécio Neves (PSDB) and Marina Silva (still without a party), who will announce her future this Friday; in a statement, the senator rolled out the red carpet: "the PSDB will continue working to present an alternative project to what is currently in place, with the permanent concern for something extremely dear to the former senator and to all of us Brazilians, ensuring sustainable development for Brazil"; will a marriage be decided under Globo's blessing?
247 - The most powerful family in Brazil, with a combined fortune of over US$21 billion, the Marinho family, owners of Globo, have always been known for influencing the country's political destiny. They supported the military regime, helped elect Fernando Collor, and gave unwavering support to the election and re-election of Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The three PT governments were a kind of outlier in the political logic of Globo's production center.
Therefore, the family seems determined to once again use its power to try to influence the political process. Last week, when the defeat of Rede Sustentabilidade in the Superior Electoral Court already seemed clear, João Roberto Marinho, one of the owners of the group and editor of the newspaper O Globo, made it clear to businessman Guilherme Leal, partner of Natura and Marina Silva's running mate in the 2010 election, that the Marinho family has a dream ticket: Aécio Neves and Marina Silva. Needless to say, the pair would have Globo's unrestricted support in 2014. The information was transmitted to 247 by a source close to Globo and confirmed by supporters of Marina Silva.
This Friday, the former senator will announce her political future. She promises a coherent decision, meaning she is unlikely to run for president with another party. This doesn't preclude her from joining a new party to participate in the race.
Yesterday, in a statement, Aécio Neves rolled out the red carpet for Marina. Read below:
We have followed Marina Silva's efforts to form the Rede party from the beginning, and we have stood in solidarity with her, even when the PT's aggressive tactics were most evident in their attempts to prevent her from achieving her goal in Congress.
We regret the TSE's decision, but we have to accept and respect the court's decision.
We maintain the position we have expressed on other occasions: Marina Silva's presence enriches the democratic debate of ideas.
For our part, the PSDB will continue working to present an alternative project to the current one, with a constant concern for something extremely dear to the former senator and to all of us Brazilians: ensuring sustainable development for Brazil.
Senator Aécio Neves (MG)
National president of the PSDB
