Interim President reiterated this Sunday, the 31st, in an official statement, that he does not intend to run for re-election in 2018, following a declaration by the Speaker of the House, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), that Michel Temer will be the "natural candidate" for the election; "I am honored by the mention of my name as a possible candidate in 2018. But I reiterate, once again, that it is only my duty to fulfill the constitutional obligation of completing the presidential term, if the Federal Senate so decides. I am not considering running for re-election," he said.

Interim President Michel Temer reiterated today (31), in an official statement, that he does not intend to run for re-election in 2018, after a statement by the Speaker of the House, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), that Temer will be a "natural candidate" for the election.
"I am honored by the mention of my name as a possible candidate in 2018. But I reiterate, once again, that it is only my duty to fulfill the constitutional obligation of completing the presidential term, if the Federal Senate so decides. I am not considering running for re-election," Temer said in a statement released late in the morning.
According to the interim president, his government's efforts "are focused exclusively on ensuring that Brazil returns to the path of growth and is pacified."
Maia's statement was made in an interview with the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo, published this Sunday. According to the Speaker of the House, "if Michel [Temer] is confirmed as president, and the government reaches 50% approval (excellent or good), he will be the candidate of our camp, whether he likes it or not."
