The trip was reported by the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper this Wednesday. Alves stated that he traveled for an official meeting with the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes. "My mistake, I acknowledge, was allowing people to accompany me, hitching a ride on this flight to Rio de Janeiro. I have already requested reimbursement for the cost of each corresponding ticket," he assured.

Representative Henrique Eduardo Alves ordered his parliamentary office to immediately return to the public coffers the amounts corresponding to the Natal-Rio-Natal airfare, related to the ride offered on a Brazilian Air Force plane, due to seat availability, to family members, on June 28th and 30th.
Congressman Henrique Eduardo Alves was in Rio de Janeiro fulfilling a previously agreed-upon agenda with the city's mayor, Eduardo Paes. On Saturday the 29th, the two participated in a lunch meeting at the official residence in Gávea Pequena.
The president acknowledges that granting the ride was a mistake and that, as a matter of duty, he is correcting it immediately.
