Aécio is betting on primaries within the PSDB for 2014.

A senator from the PSDB party described the party's internal dispute to choose a presidential candidate as "virtually certain"; he just didn't say whether or not the pre-candidate for mayor of São Paulo, José Serra, would participate in the voting.

247 - The primaries that took place this Sunday in the PSDB party, responsible for José Serra's victory in the São Paulo mayoral race, are also expected to occur in 2014, during the presidential elections. This is the opinion of Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG), who described the event as "practically certain," according to information published in the column. Online Power, from the iG portalThe question – which Aécio also did not comment on – is whether former governor José Serra will be part of the race.

In speeches on Sunday, the party highlighted the importance of the primaries. The party's national president, Sérgio Guerra, described the internal contest as an example for the "entire PSDB." The governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, said that candidates invented in a laboratory are not chosen. Former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso took the opportunity to criticize the PT: “In the PT, everything is imposed. Former president Lula goes there and orders: 'It will be Dilma Rousseff. It will be Fernando Haddad.' And it was. It ceased to function democratically as in the past. The PSDB, on the contrary, is improving itself to be a more open party,” he said.

Serra's pre-candidacy for mayor can be seen as an open path for Aécio to run for president under the PSDB banner. After all, the former governor promised – once again – that he would not leave his post as mayor mid-term to run in 2014. However, since the same speech has already been made and not kept twice before by the politician – when he ran for governor of São Paulo and for president – anything can happen in the 2014 primaries.
