Earlier, the White House questioned whether Zelensky would wear a suit to his meeting with the President of the United States, amid past tensions over his wearing a military jacket in the Oval Office, the Axios website reported.
In March, Trump mocked the Ukrainian leader's attire, and aides say this contributed to a turbulent meeting. This time, Zelensky wore a black suit jacket—similar to the one he wore at the NATO summit in June—but without a tie, which had already irritated US Vice President JD Vance.
American officials say that both leaders have improved their relationship since then and, with the presence of European allies, a calmer and more diplomatic tone is expected.
The meeting comes after a successful meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last Friday to discuss a ceasefire.
