From China Radio International (CRI) - Chinese President Xi Jinping met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday morning (4) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting, Xi Jinping pointed out that Scholz is the first European leader to visit China since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and that this is also the German Chancellor's first trip to China since taking office. It is believed that this visit will help increase mutual understanding and trust and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, thus providing a good framework for the development of Sino-German relations in the future.

The Chinese leader stressed that this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The journey of the past five decades demonstrates the need to uphold the principles of mutual respect, the pursuit of common ground while setting aside differences, mutual exchange and learning, and mutually beneficial cooperation, in order to maintain the overall direction of bilateral relations and promote their steady development. Currently, in the face of a complicated and ever-changing international situation, China and Germany, as two large countries with strong influence, need to cooperate hand in hand and contribute more to world peace and development.

At the meeting, Scholz stated that China plays an important role in combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, fighting Covid-19, resolving the food crisis, and many other global issues. He emphasized that Germany hopes to maintain communication and coordination with China to better safeguard regional and global peace and security.

According to the German Chancellor, China is an important economic and trade partner of Germany and Europe. He said that his country firmly supports trade liberalization and economic globalization, and is willing to continue deepening economic and trade cooperation with China and to support companies from both countries in carrying out investment cooperation. Furthermore, the German side is also willing to strengthen mutual understanding and trust with the Chinese side and to strive to stabilize, consolidate, and develop bilateral relations. Germany is prepared to play its due role in promoting the development of China-EU relations.
