Xi Jinping and the President of the Maldives exchange congratulations on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

China Radio International (CRI) - Chinese President Xi Jinping and Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih exchanged congratulatory messages last Saturday (14) to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Chinese leader emphasized that China and the Maldives have maintained long-standing friendly exchanges. Over the past 50 years, since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have always respected and supported each other, setting an example of a relationship marked by equality, mutual benefit, and win-win situations between large and small nations. In recent years, the two nations have worked together to address the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, deepen cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, and safeguard and promote genuine multilateralism, giving new impetus and opening new perspectives for bilateral relations. Xi Jinping stated that he attaches great importance to the development of relations with the Maldives and is willing to work with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to promote a comprehensive friendly cooperative partnership between China and the Maldives, bringing greater benefits to both countries and their people.

In turn, Solih stated that Maldives-China relations are based on shared historical roots, sovereign equality, and mutual respect, as well as the Maldivian government's firm adherence to the One China policy. China has contributed significantly to the economic, social, and cultural development of the Maldives. The President of the Maldives expressed confidence that the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries, formed over the past 50 years, will be deepened and expanded.
