China Radio International Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US President Joe Biden in Bali, Indonesia, on Monday afternoon (14), a day before the G20 Summit, which begins on Tuesday (15) in the city.

At the meeting, Xi Jinping stated that China and the US have gone through more than 50 years since initial contact and the establishment of diplomatic relations, with highs and lows in this exchange. Both sides have accumulated experiences and learned lessons. History shows the trajectory of this relationship and should serve as a mirror to guide the future.

The current state of bilateral relations does not correspond to the essential interests of both countries and their peoples, nor to the expectations of the international community. We, as the leaders of China and the US, need to play an indispensable role in finding the right direction for the development of relations, in order to elevate the relationship, stressed the Chinese leader. Politicians must think about and clarify the direction of their own development, as well as how to relate to other countries and the world.

Currently, the times are changing in an unprecedented way. Human society is also facing challenges like never before. “We are at a crossroads and we are concerned about the fate of the world. All countries are concerned about this. The world expects China and the US to properly manage bilateral relations. Therefore, our meeting today is attracting much attention from the world,” said Xi Jinping. “We must work with other nations to raise hope for world peace and inject confidence in global stability, as well as add impetus to common development,” added the Chinese president.

“I would like to maintain frank and in-depth communication with Mr. Biden on strategic issues in China-US relations and major global and regional issues. I also hope that both countries will work together to boost ties back onto a path of healthy and stable development, benefiting both sides and the entire world,” the Chinese leader added.

Biden stated that China and the US have a responsibility to demonstrate the ability to manage differences and prevent competition from turning into conflict, as well as to develop cooperation on urgent global issues. "I look forward to continuing an open and sincere dialogue with President Xi Jinping, as before," the US president pledged.
