247 - In a statement this Monday (8), President Xi Jinping stressed his country's willingness to work with other BRICS members to strengthen multipolarity on the international stage. Xi highlighted President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's mention of the ongoing crises. "President Lula mentioned the Ukrainian crisis and the conflict in the Gaza Strip. I agree with Brazil's position because I believe we are all united on these issues," he said.

Criticisms of unilateralism

The Chinese leader also criticized practices that, according to him, affect the balance of the global economy. Xi denounced that "hegemony, unilateralism and protectionism are becoming increasingly common," further pointing out that "trade and tariff wars seriously disrupt the global economy and undermine the rules of international trade."

Strengthening BRICS

During his speech, Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of the bloc formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. He advocated that these countries act "at the forefront of the Global South," fostering cooperation with a "spirit of openness, inclusion, and cooperation" and defending the multilateral trading system.

Global development

The Chinese president also reinforced his support for the Global Development Initiative, proposed by Beijing to promote high-quality cooperation among developing countries. According to Xi, the initiative should serve as an instrument to address economic challenges and strengthen international integration.
