Xi says Asian Investment Bank is a platform for shared development.

The President of China, speaking at the opening of the 5th annual meeting of the Asian multilateral bank, called for the institution to be a platform for developing a community with a shared future for humanity.

247 - Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday (28) called for the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to be a new platform that promotes the development of all its members and facilitates the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. 

Xi made the remarks while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 5th annual meeting of the multilateral development bank, via video conference, according to [source missing]. Xinhua.

He called for efforts to make the AIIB a new type of multilateral development bank that promotes development worldwide, a new type of development platform that progresses with the times, a new type of high-performance institution for international cooperation, and a new paradigm for multilateral cooperation.

The AIIB, proposed by Xi at the end of 2013, was officially launched in January 2016.

"The initiative is designed to develop infrastructure and connectivity in Asia and deepen regional cooperation for shared development," Xi said.

From its 57 founding members to its current 102 members, spanning six continents—Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania—the AIIB has grown to provide nearly US$20 billion in infrastructure investments to its members.
