TASS -  The United States and NATO are engaged in a proxy war against Russia on Ukrainian territory, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic said at a press conference in the eastern city of Vukovar.

"Washington and NATO are waging a proxy war against Russia with the help of Ukraine," Milanovic told the Croatian news agency HINA.

The Croatian president also said he saw no point in introducing sanctions against Moscow.

"The plan shouldn't be about removing [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. The plan shouldn't be about sanctions. Sanctions are absurd and we can't achieve anything with them," Milanovic continued.

"They couldn't even subdue [Slobodan] Milosevic... They're going from one war to another. But how am I supposed to feel – a slave of America?" said the Croatian president.

Previously, the Croatian parliament did not support the government's proposal to provide Ukrainian military personnel with the opportunity to train in the republic.

Milanovic has also previously spoken out against the training of Ukrainian soldiers on Croatian territory. According to him, the military training of Ukrainian soldiers in EU countries has had dangerous consequences.
