China Radio International Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a member of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, spoke by telephone on Monday (31) with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The two sides exchanged views on current and future bilateral relations.
Blinken stated that the American side paid close attention to the 20th National Congress of the CPC and the event's report. Wang Yi pointed out that the most important outcome of the Congress is defining Comrade Xi Jinping's position as the core of the Central Committee and the entire Party, as well as establishing Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era as the guiding thought that must be insisted upon in the long term. China will firmly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which has already proven successful.
The Chinese Foreign Minister said that an important message conveyed at the Congress is that China will continue to uphold the diplomatic principle of defending world peace and promoting joint development, along with the national policy of opening up to the outside world, in order to boost the overall progress of humanity through Chinese modernization.
The diplomat noted that promoting the return of Sino-American relations to a path of stable development not only corresponds to the common interests of both countries, but also fulfills the general hope of the international community. Wang Yi urged the American side to stop its crackdown on China and not create new obstacles to ties between the two countries.
Blinken said the world is eagerly awaiting cooperation between the U.S. and China. The U.S. side wants to maintain contact with China regarding bilateral relations in the next phase, carry out bilateral collaborations, and discuss the basis for the relationship between the two countries.
The two sides also exchanged ideas on the issue of Ukraine and other topics.
