Volcano cancels flights in Argentina and Uruguay.
Aerolineas Argentinas, Austral, Sol, Pluna, TAM and Andes suspend departures this morning. Singer Avril Lavigne, on tour, is unable to board her flight to Brazil.
247 - Ash from the Chilean volcano Puyehue has once again caused flight cancellations in Argentina and Uruguay, aviation authorities reported. Aerolíneas Argentinas, Austral, Sol, Pluna, TAM, and Andes airlines have suspended all their domestic flights and most international flights starting Wednesday morning.
Among the passengers waiting in line to board in Argentina is Canadian singer Avril Lavigne. "This is the longest I've ever had to wait or been stuck in an airport in my life. This is insane. I just want to go to Brazil," the singer said on her Twitter page. Avril was scheduled to open her tour in São Paulo on July 27th and 28th at Credicard Hall.
According to Juan Pablo Biondi, spokesperson for the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), the ash cloud is 400 km wide over the region of the city of Buenos Aires and remains stationary due to the absence of wind.
This is the sixth flight suspension caused by the Chilean volcano. Puyehue erupted on June 4th and has since caused a series of disruptions to air services in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
