Sputnik Brazil - Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez accused US Vice President Mike Pence of inciting a coup in her country.

"We have been witnessing an unprecedented situation. The Vice President of the United States of America, Mike Pence, has appeared (...) intending to come and govern Venezuela, giving instructions on what should be done tomorrow in Venezuela, openly calling for a coup d'état in Venezuela," Rodríguez said in a broadcast on the state television channel Venezolana de Televisión.

In a video posted on Twitter, Pence spoke on behalf of the U.S. and its president, Donald Trump, and expressed his support for the actions the opposition plans to take on January 23.

"By raising your voices tomorrow, on behalf of the American people, we say to the people of Venezuela that we are with you, we support you, and we will continue to support you until democracy in Venezuela is restored and your rights to freedom are regained. God be with you," the American added.

Rodríguez recommended that Pence deal with the internal affairs of his own country.

The Venezuelan opposition called for a mobilization on January 23rd to protest against President Nicolás Maduro.

At the same time, the ruling party called on the population to take to the streets in defense of the current head of state.

The two demonstrations are taking place in a context of great tension, after a group of soldiers revolted against the government and were arrested, which provoked numerous protests in the Venezuelan capital on Monday and in the early hours of January 22nd.
