Sputnik Brazil - The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and militants from the Azov battalion, a Ukrainian neo-Nazi group, are preparing a provocation with the possibility of radioactive contamination in areas around Kharkov, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

According to the agency, Ukrainian extremists mined a reactor at an experimental nuclear facility at the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology.

"The SBU and militants from the Azov Battalion are planning to blow up the reactor and accuse the Russian Armed Forces of allegedly launching a missile attack against the experimental nuclear facility," the ministry said.

The Russian Defense Ministry also stated that foreign journalists arrived in Kharkov in advance, this Sunday (6), to record the consequences of the provocation by Ukrainian radicals, in order to accuse Russia of creating an ecological catastrophe.

Last Friday (4), Kiev attempted a provocation at the Zaporozhie nuclear power plant, in the south of the country, blaming Moscow for developing a source of radioactive contamination at the plant, according to information released by the ministry.

The Russian military reported that a group of soldiers was patrolling the area near the station when a Ukrainian sabotage unit opened fire from the windows of an educational and training complex located outside the nuclear power plant.

After the Russian counterattack, the Ukrainian saboteurs were forced to retreat, setting fire to the building before leaving. The fire was eventually contained, and the radiation level was determined to be normal.
