247 - US President Donald Trump tried to justify sanctions on Friday (5) such as the 50% tariff on Brazilian exports to the United States and the suspension of visas for ministers of the Supreme Federal Court to US territory. The explicit reason for the US retaliations is the investigation into the coup plot against Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is a defendant in the investigation, is under precautionary measures and is under house arrest.

“They are doing something very unfortunate. I love the people of Brazil, we have a great relationship with Brazil. The government of Brazil has changed radically, it has moved too far to the left, and it is harming Brazil,” Trump stated.

Trump ally Bolsonaro faces five charges in the Supreme Court. Combined, the sentences amount to more than 40 years in prison. His trial began last Tuesday (2). The Supreme Court has indicted 31 people in the investigation.

In addition to facing criminal charges in the Supreme Federal Court, Bolsonaro was indicted by the Federal Police for obstruction of justice in the investigations into the attempted coup – Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) was also indicted.
