Trump will scrap Obama's climate plan, says White House.

"President Trump is committed to eliminating harmful and unnecessary policies, such as the Climate Action Plan. Removing these restrictions will greatly help American workers, increasing wages by more than $30 billion over the next 7 years," reported the recently updated White House website; on the day of his inauguration, he was the target of protests in various parts of the world.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The administration of President Donald Trump is committed to eliminating the Climate Action Plan of former US President Barack Obama and other environmental initiatives, according to the White House website.

"President Trump is committed to eliminating harmful and unnecessary policies, such as the Climate Action Plan. Removing these restrictions will greatly benefit American workers, increasing wages by more than $30 billion over the next 7 years," reported the recently updated White House website.

Obama's climate plan proposed cuts in carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S., in part by preserving forests and encouraging the increased use of cleaner, renewable fuels.

Trump's efforts to boost the U.S. oil and gas sector will help increase government revenue to "rebuild our roads, schools, bridges and public infrastructure," the website said.

Trump was sworn in as US president on Friday afternoon.
