Trump is sworn in and delivers protectionist speech as the 45th president of the United States.

In his first speech as President of the United States, Donald Trump said that all trade, taxes, immigration, and foreign relations under his administration would benefit Americans, and that the U.S. needs to protect itself against other countries that take jobs away.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on Friday, succeeding Barack Obama and taking control of a divided country, in a power shift he said would lead to policies that put America first.

While protests raged in parts of Washington, Trump raised his right hand and placed his left hand on a Bible used by Abraham Lincoln, repeating a 35-word oath from the U.S. Constitution.

In his first speech as President of the United States, Donald Trump said that all trade, taxes, immigration, and foreign relations under his administration would benefit Americans.

After being sworn in as president, Trump said the U.S. needs to protect itself against other countries that take jobs away.
