247 - US President Donald Trump suspended the entry of immigrants at the border with Mexico on Wednesday (22). The White House stated that the government is protecting the country from an "invasion". The American government has sent thousands of active-duty soldiers to the region. Approximately 2,2 soldiers are on site as part of the Joint Task Force North.

"President Trump is authorizing and instructing the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Department of State to take all necessary measures to immediately repel, repatriate, and remove illegal aliens across the southern border of the United States," the White House said in a statement.

The Current Population Survey indicated that approximately 40 million of the 300 million inhabitants of the US in 2018 were of Mexican origin. Currently, the US population exceeds 340 million. The number of undocumented Mexicans was 4,1 million in 2021, according to the Pew Research Center.
