247 US President Donald Trump stated that Hamas's declaration of readiness for lasting peace means Israel must immediately halt the bombing of the Gaza Strip to allow for the release of hostages.

"Based on the statement recently released by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting peace. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can safely and quickly remove the hostages! Right now, it is too dangerous to do so," Trump said on Truth Social on Friday.

"We are already in discussions about the details to be resolved. It's not just about Gaza, it's about a peace that has been sought for a long time in the Middle East," the president added.

Trump's Plan

On Monday (29), the US president presented a 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza. The initiative includes, among other points, the immediate implementation of a ceasefire and the release of hostages within 72 hours.

The proposal also stipulates that Hamas and other groups abandon any form of participation in the administration of Gaza, whether directly or indirectly. According to the plan, the territory would be administered by a "Palestinian committee with a technical profile and no political ties," which would be overseen by an international council led by Trump.

Numbers

The Islamist group Hamas has been holding more than 40 people hostage since October 2023, when the genocide in Gaza began. According to the local Ministry of Health, more than 66 Palestinians have died as victims of Israeli attacks.

The genocide committed by Israel also leads to the blocking of humanitarian aid. Consequently, it hinders the population's access to food and medicine. The UN stated on August 22nd that more than half a million people in Gaza are starving. It was the first time that famine had been declared in the Middle East.

One of Israel's actions against Gaza is the interception of flotillas – boats carrying aid to the Palestinian territory. Because of these interceptions, more than 400 people are now homeless.

Figures released by the global organization Oxfam showed that intensified Israeli military operations in Gaza City threaten to forcibly displace nearly one million people to overcrowded and poorly equipped 'humanitarian areas'.

International courts

South Africa took Israel to the International Court of Justice, accusing it of genocide. In the same year, 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Even in the face of these decisions, Tel Aviv intensified its military offensive and severely restricted the entry of humanitarian aid destined for the population of the Gaza Strip. Although not imprisoned, Netanyahu faces increasing diplomatic isolation, as countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Portugal, France, Belgium, and Monaco have officially recognized the State of Palestine.
