US Immigration agents arrested hundreds of undocumented immigrants this week in several organized police raids in different cities and states across the country, according to a report by the Washington Post on Saturday (11).

 
Although the Immigration agency has not provided precise numbers, it is known that at least 160 people were arrested in and around Los Angeles, while approximately 200 immigrants were arrested in Atlanta, according to the... newspaperPolice operations were carried out in homes, offices, and other workplaces.

Raids were also carried out in other regions, such as New York, Chicago, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the director of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE), David Marin, who spoke at a press conference on Friday (10).

According to the official, a high percentage of those detained had criminal records, and deportation to their respective countries of origin, mostly in Latin America, was applied immediately.

News of the raids to capture illegal immigrants spread like wildfire among immigrants, Spanish-language radio stations, associations, and social media, sowing panic and generating new protests against the police action.
