The incident occurred around 2 a.m. (local time, 3 a.m. in Brasília). A very loud noise was heard near the site, and police reported that it was a 'controlled explosion'.

Earlier, police reported only that "there are several injured" and that they had already requested support from local and federal security agencies. There was suspicion that the attacker had an explosive device.
