'We have dead people on our conscience,' says former anti-vaccine leader and Italian doctor.

"All of us anti-vaxxers were huge cowards," stated Dr. Pasquale Bacco, an anti-vaxxer leader in Italy.

247 - Italian anti-vaccine leader Pasquale Bacco says he regrets his actions and is leaving the movement, of which he was a leading figure in the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The reason for the change in position, according to him, was the death of a 29-year-old man who had videos of his speeches on his cell phone.

"His family told me he was a fan of mine. They didn't say it angrily, on the contrary, which only makes it hurt more. I feel like this death is my fault. When I saw the reality with my own eyes, I realized I was wrong," Bacco said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Serra.

The doctor recounts participating in hundreds of denialist acts across the country. "I believe that we, who climbed those steps [platforms], have dead people on our consciences. All of us anti-vaxxers were great cowards. We went to the squares and, when we spoke, we knew that people wanted to hear strong things. So we provoked more and more: there's sewage water in the vaccines, the coffins in Bergamo are all empty, nobody died of Covid. We were great scoundrels," he said.
