Taiwan is betting on military reform and Western weapons to confront China.
Taiwan's military will be trained to use missile and drone systems, according to the South China Morning Post.
Sputnik - Taiwan's new military training program, which will replace traditional bayonet training, will take effect in 2024 and will focus on modern close-quarters combat capabilities.
Furthermore, it will be part of the extension of mandatory military service from four to 12 months, as previously announced.
Taiwan's leader, Tsai Ing-wen, explained that the military will receive close-quarters combat training and learn how to fire Stinger and Javelin missiles, Kestrel anti-armor rockets, and operate drones, as well as other new weapons.
Taiwan's Vice Defense Minister Po Horng-huei detailed that the 52 weeks of military service will include eight weeks in training camp, seven weeks of specialized training, and 13 weeks of field unit training.
Analysts in Taiwan believe that the military reform will strengthen the country's defense capabilities.
In turn, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stated that most Taiwanese citizens are aware of what is right and will not be used as cannon fodder.
