Subservient to Trump, the Bolsonaro government supports the United States' war against Venezuela.

In a further demonstration of subservience to the United States, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) released a statement tonight defending the coup against Venezuela, an action dubbed by the Brazilian and US governments as "Institutional Framework for Democratic Transition in Venezuela."

"The Brazilian government, after learning of the proposal for an Institutional Framework for Democratic Transition in Venezuela, presented on March 31st by the government of the United States of America, expresses its agreement with the objectives of the proposal and supports it as an instrument capable of contributing to the restoration of democracy in Venezuela."

2. In line with the proposal, the Brazilian government believes that only free, fair, and transparent presidential elections can end the serious political, economic, and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. It also considers the departure of Nicolás Maduro to be a prerequisite for the process, since he lacks any legitimacy to be part of a genuine transition.

3. Several elements present in the proposal have been defended by Brazil individually and also by the Lima Group, of which the country is a part.

4. The simultaneous resignation of dictator Nicolás Maduro and Interim President Juan Guaidó, and the establishment of a Council of State, elected by the legitimate National Assembly, with the mandate to organize free and fair elections under international observation, would constitute an important step towards a definitive solution to the crisis in Venezuela. In Brazil's understanding, guaranteeing the participation in the transition process of all political forces committed to democracy, repudiating organized crime, releasing political prisoners, restoring parliamentary immunities, restructuring the National Electoral Council, and re-establishing a legitimate Supreme Court of Justice are indispensable for the reconstruction of the rule of law and a democratic environment in Venezuela.

5. The Brazilian government is ready to work with the international community to support the democratic transition process in Venezuela, which is so eagerly awaited by the Venezuelan people themselves and by freedom lovers throughout the region.
