Marie-Louise Gumuchian (Reuters) - The rock band The Killers teamed up with director Spike Lee to produce the music video for their latest song, “Land Of The Free,” a protest against U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall on the country’s border with Mexico.

The director of "Do the Right Thing" and "Malcolm X" had complete creative freedom to produce the music video, which the Las Vegas band described as "a heartfelt lament inspired by current events and recent national tragedies in the United States."

Lee filmed the video in late 2018 along the border, capturing scenes of immigrant families on their way to the “land of the free people,” the group said.

The images show immigrants of all ages following the route and, at times, clashing with security forces.

Lee, who was nominated for a British BAFTA film award last week for the film "BlacKkKlansman," has previously worked on other music videos, including Michael Jackson's hit "They Don't Care About Us."

Trump has asked Congress for $5,7 billion to build a wall along the country's southwest border, a demand that Democrats have denied. The impasse has triggered the longest partial government shutdown in United States history.
