Syria promises to respect agreement against chemical weapons.
"We joined the international agreement against the acquisition and use of chemical weapons even before this resolution was approved," said President Bashar al-Assad, when asked if Syria would comply with the resolution adopted on Friday.
ROME, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Syria will respect United Nations agreements on chemical weapons, President Bashar al-Assad told Italian television channel RaiNews24 on Sunday.
"We joined the international agreement against the acquisition and use of chemical weapons even before this resolution was approved," he stated, when questioned about whether Syria would comply with the resolution adopted on Friday.
The United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution on Friday demanding the eradication of chemical weapons from Syria, but did not threaten Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with automatic military action if his government fails to comply.
