Sputnik - According to the Syrian government, Israeli jets allegedly attacked several targets in the early hours of Monday (7) in the Damascus countryside. After the attack, two civilians who were part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran died.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry accused the Israeli Air Force of allegedly coordinating an attack outside Damascus in conjunction with Daesh (a terrorist group banned in Russia and several other countries) on Monday morning (7), leaving two civilians dead and causing material damage.

A source from the Syrian Army said that Israeli jets attacked several targets at around 05:00 (00:00 Brasília time).

"It was no coincidence that the Israeli enemy launched a new aggression on March 7, 2022, against residential areas in rural Damascus, hours after the Daesh terrorist organization committed a crime in which several brave Syrian Army soldiers were killed," the ministry said in a statement.

Damascus suggested that the joint "Daesh-Israel terrorist aggression" shows "the reality of clear and direct coordination between the two criminal parties."

"The Syrian Arab Republic warned of the repercussions of repeated and extensive Israeli attacks on Syria and the heavy losses they cause in terms of lives and infrastructure, as well as terrorizing the civilian population, including women and children," the ministry said.

According to Reuters, the two Syrian civilians were members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Iran has vowed to avenge their deaths.

The alleged attack occurred less than a day after Daesh terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying Syrians in a desert area near Palmyra, in the Homs countryside, killing at least 13 soldiers and wounding 18 others.

Damascus urged the United Nations Security Council to address Israel's "disregard for international law and the UN Charter" and to avoid "double standards" in its response to such behavior.
