Sinophobia will lead to conflict and confrontation, says Chinese diplomat at the UN.
Sinophobia is the result of strategic misjudgments and political manipulation, said Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN.
247 - A Chinese envoy to the UN warned on Tuesday (14) that Sinophobia on the part of politicians will lead to conflicts and confrontations.
"Just now, summaries of documents containing opinions on Russophobia and its relation to the Ukraine crisis circulated in the Security Council," said Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations. "I would like to take this opportunity to point out that, for some time now, politicians in some countries seem to have contracted Sinophobia."
These politicians are full of prejudice and paranoia about China, spreading anxieties and instigating tensions. This Sinophobia is the result of misunderstandings about China, strategic misjudgments, and political manipulation, Geng Shuang said at a Security Council meeting on Ukraine in the context of Russophobia, Xinhua reports.
A country's policy toward China, if hijacked by Sinophobia, will only lead to a hardening of the zero-sum game mentality and containment and repression, thus resulting in conflict and confrontation, Geng said.
"The world has already been thrown into chaos by the crisis in Ukraine. Should another crisis be created to make the world unrecognizable?" he asked.
