Separatists present motion for Catalan independence.

Catalan separatists have submitted a motion to the regional Parliament to proclaim the region's independence from the rest of Spain and create a Republic of Catalonia, although it is unclear whether the text will be put to a vote; the motion was presented by parliamentarians from the Together for Yes party and the Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) party, which together hold a majority in the Catalan regional assembly.

Reuters Catalan separatists presented a motion to the regional Parliament on Friday to proclaim the region's independence from the rest of Spain and the creation of a Republic of Catalonia, although it was unclear whether the text would be put to a vote, according to the newspaper La Vanguardia.

The motion was presented by parliamentarians from the Juntos Pelo Sim party and the Candidatura da Unidade Popular (CUP) party, which together hold a majority in the Catalan regional assembly.
