Without mentioning Ukraine, Bolsonaro says he 'preachs peace' and 'respects those who act in this way'.
Bolsonaro thanked Russia for its support in defending the Brazilian Amazon and said that the two countries will deepen dialogue on technology and research.
247 - Jair Bolsonaro spoke at the Kremlin, the seat of the Russian government, this Wednesday (16) after meeting with the country's president, Vladimir Putin. Following Itamaraty's guidelines, the Brazilian did not mention the tension on the border between Russia and Ukraine, but said he was 'preaching peace'.
He stated that the two countries will deepen the dialogue on research and technologies, including "information and communications." Bolsonaro also thanked Russia for its support in defending the Brazilian Amazon, against the idea propagated by other nations that the forest should be considered a world heritage site.
Despite the statements, Bolsonaro did not announce any concrete measures or programs in partnership with Russia.
See what Bolsonaro said:
"We share common values, such as belief in God and family values. We stand in solidarity with all countries that strive for peace. We have strong collaboration within key international groups, BRICS, G20, and the UN. We have observed a return to bilateral trade levels prior to the pandemic."
Brazil is a powerhouse in agribusiness, and there is a great deal of interest in the fertilizer trade. We have also noted Russian interest in Brazilian beef.
In the field of energy, there are ample opportunities to explore gas, oil, and its derivatives. We wish to deepen our high-level dialogue on topics such as deep-water exploration and hydrogen. We are interested in small modular reactors.
When countries questioned the Amazon's status as a world heritage site, I want to thank you for your intervention, as you have always stood by our side in defense of our sovereignty.
President Putin and I attach high priority to strengthening the technological alliance between Brazil and Russia. I suggested we work together in cutting-edge areas such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, information and communication technologies, and research in health and oceans.
Regarding the environment, Brazil and Russia are home to the two largest forestry disputes in the world. We have decided to establish a dialogue on biodiversity and sustainability. I remind everyone that our electricity matrix is 75% renewable, compared to 28% globally. We will continue to expand our bilateral agenda for the benefit of our people.
Our meeting, which lasted almost two hours, was very productive.
The world is our home, and God is above us all. We preach peace and respect all those who act in this way. Peace to the world.
