Sean "Diddy" Combs will be sentenced on October 3rd.
Music mogul convicted on charges of transporting prostitutes to participate in drug-fueled sex performances.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge said Tuesday that Sean "Diddy" Combs will be sentenced on October 3, after the music mogul was convicted on charges of transporting prostitutes to participate in drug-fueled sex performances.
District Judge Arun Subramanian, who oversaw Combs' trial in Manhattan, approved the date following a request from Combs' attorney Marc Agnifilo. Prosecutors and parole officials agreed to the date.
Combs, 55, remains in the Brooklyn jail where he has been held since his arrest last September, although jurors acquitted him of the most serious charges he faced.
On July 2, jurors acquitted Combs of sex trafficking and extortion charges that could have put him behind bars for life. They convicted him on two counts of transporting persons to engage in prostitution.
The mixed verdict was widely seen as a defeat for prosecutors, who accused Combs of coercing two former girlfriends into having unwanted sex with sex workers, with the help of his employees.
Prosecutors said Combs could face 51 to 63 months in prison according to federal sentencing guidelines, while the defense argued that the same guidelines suggested a two-year sentence.
The judge is not obligated to follow the guidelines, and both parties can propose different terms. Combs can also ask the judge to overturn his conviction.
