247 - The United Nations considers the sanctions imposed by the United States against the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, unacceptable and warns that the measure sets a “dangerous precedent”. The statement was made this Thursday (10) by UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.

On Wednesday (9), US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington had sanctioned Albanese for his alleged "encouragement" of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to act against US and Israeli officials. Rubio also stated that the country will continue to take measures to react to what he called "lawfare" and protect its sovereignty and that of its allies.

“Imposing sanctions on special rapporteurs sets a dangerous precedent. Francesca Albanese, like the other UN Special Rapporteurs on Human Rights, is an independent expert appointed by and accountable to the UN Human Rights Council… The use of unilateral sanctions against special rapporteurs or any other UN expert or official is unacceptable,” Dujarric declared at a press conference.
