Sam Bankman-Fried, cryptocurrency magnate and former head of FTX, is detained in the Bahamas.

The arrest was made following formal notification from the United States regarding criminal charges against the businessman.

247 - Cryptocurrency magnate Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested this Monday (12) in the Bahamas, according to US authorities who are seeking to hold him criminally responsible for the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency platform. The information is from the G1 portal.

The arrest was made following formal notification from the United States regarding criminal charges against the businessman.

Prosecutor Damian Williams said more details about the actions against Bankman-Fried will be revealed this Tuesday (13). Sam - or "SBF", as he was known - made several media appearances in the last month, despite the risk of being prosecuted for fraud after the collapse of the company, valued at US$ 32 billion.

Bahamas Attorney General Ryan Pinder announced in a statement via Twitter that the U.S. has filed charges against the 30-year-old man and will likely seek his extradition.
