Russia may reject the election in Ukraine if its observers are refused.

Russia reserves the right not to recognize the results of the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine if Russian observers are not allowed; this was stated to Sputnik on Thursday (7) by the first deputy leader of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Senate, Vladimir Dzhabarov.

This was stated to Sputnik on Thursday (7) by the first deputy leader of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Senate, Vladimir Dzhabarov.

On Monday (4), Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko said he would instruct the Border Guard Service to deny entry to Russian observers for the elections, scheduled for March 31.

"Ukraine has decided to bar Russian observers from polling stations on election day, and we should not recognize this election," the parliamentarian said.

Russian authorities condemned Kyiv's plans to ban Russian observers from the elections, arguing that Ukrainian authorities were trying to prevent an objective assessment of the voting process.

Ukrainians will go to the polls to choose their new president on March 31. Poroshenko is running for re-election in a race with more than 30 candidates.
