Russia issues arrest warrant for Estonia's Prime Minister.
Both Estonia and Latvia are conducting campaigns to dismantle monuments to Soviet soldiers who liberated their territories from the Nazis during World War II.
Sputnik Brazil - The Russian Interior Ministry requested, this Tuesday (13), a search and arrest warrant against the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas. The ministry did not mention the specific accusations against the Estonian head of government.
Kallas, for his part, described the arrest warrant issued by Russia as "false." In recent years, Russophobic sentiment has been growing in the Baltic countries, which have seen their border with Russia closed and Russian citizens persecuted on their territory.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented in this regard that high-ranking officials in Estonia and Latvia commit hostile acts against Russia and indicated that "they are people responsible for decisions that constitute a desecration of historical memory."
Both Estonia and Latvia are conducting campaigns to dismantle monuments to Soviet soldiers who liberated their territories from Nazi Germany during World War II (1939-1945).
Kallas, 46, took office as Prime Minister of Estonia in January 2021. A year and a half later, she formed a new cabinet following a ministerial crisis. In April 2023, she was re-elected to head a new coalition government.
