Russia and Brazil confirm their intention to strengthen relations.
In a phone call, the foreign ministers of Brazil and Russia advocated for strengthening relations as strategic allies.
Sputnik - The Foreign Ministers of Russia and Brazil, Sergei Lavrov and Mauro Vieira, confirmed, in a telephone conversation this Thursday (2), the intentions of the two countries to continue working to strengthen relations between them.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the countries "confirmed their mutual aspiration to continue working together to strengthen relations as a strategic ally between Russia and Brazil."
Similarly, the note points out that the ministers "discussed interaction in both bilateral and international formats and agreed on a timetable for future Russian-Brazilian contacts at different levels."
Lavrov wished Mauro Vieira, who took over as head of Itamaraty in January, success in his new role.
In a statement released on social media, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) reported that the "ministers agreed to hold a meeting in the near future" and that Lavrov took the opportunity to "renew his congratulations on President Lula's inauguration."
On Tuesday (31), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva proposed the creation of a peace forum to assist negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in the face of the conflict on European soil.
Lula defended the construction of a dialogue mechanism between Russia and Ukraine after meeting with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, who had asked Brazil to commit to sending munitions to Kiev. The Brazilian president, however, denied the request and said that his war is against hunger, not against Russia.
